Broken Family

Dear readers,

I saw something posted by my son on his Instagram page. No need to worry , my son is 36 years old, married 14 years to a fabulously talented and beautiful wife, who gave birth to my three amazing grandchildren ( two girls and a boy), Yes, I know I said no need to fret, but a mothers never ceases worrying no matter how advanced in age their children. My son is a family man. He is among the thousands maybe millions of young black men, who have  stood before man and God and said ” I do” and meant it. Nonetheless  it pained me to read this post:

Family isn’t what it used to be. It use to be time when you could go to grandma house, eat hang out with family, and just have a good time. Now everybody choose who they wanna deal with. Aunts and Uncles choose which kids to be proud of. Brother’s and Sister’s treat friends more like family. Cousins talk about each other like they aren’t flawed. Grandparents spend time with certain grand kids. And the only time you see everyone together is a funeral.

While your reading this post and discovery that your family has fallen on hard times. Pick up the phone and reach out. Plan a dinner, send a card, aplogized to the family memebers you haven’t spoken to becuase of a foolish grudge. the foundation of the next generation depends on strong family tides,

Swing Time

Dear readers,

In case you’re wondering about my musical selections, they are not chosen randomly.  Growing up I was fortunate to live in a  house where music played an important role in our daily routine. My father loved all genre of music and taught his children to appreciate the artist talent of each performer. We danced and song as a form of entertainment, instead of watching Television.  However, were  two shows we did watch together,  American Band Stand, and Soul Train. One of my fathers’ favorite singers Sam Cooke. My vinyl Classics:

Imagine

Dear readers,

We run around like rats chasing after cheese moving from hole to hole. In New York City, I’ve observed people commuting on trains and buses gulping down slices of pizza before reaching their destinations. Most of then are suffering from heart burn, acid reflux or some form of indigestion.

People walk fast in New York City, claiming that’s how a true New Yorkers moves. Hogwash. They walk fast trying to keep pace on this virtual treadmill called life. They speak to each other in passing shouting as the distance between them grows wider and wider. New Yorkers rush around huffing and puffing to catch a train, plain, car or bus they’ve so carefully  scheduled, and if they are one minute off, boom, the entire day is ruined

Weekends has become a marathon of chores  and trying  to caught up, this means, racing against the clock trying to complete impossible tasks before the dreaded MONDAY. Vacations have turned into a stay-cations, mostly due to the boss needing you close to work because he/she is on a real vacation, and might call you asking some questions about the project you’re not supposed to be working on during your backyard  stay-cation.

I once heard some one say, choose your struggle and stick with it.

I say, breathe and visualize this.

Imagine all the people living in peace~ John Lennon

Independence Versus Dependence

Dear readers,

Independence or self sufficient, in my opinion, has too many “SELFS”, self – sufficiency, self  governed, self- rule, self-determined, and self-reliance. There are songs and poems written about being Independent. Just for a moment think about this, are we truly independent. The truth is we don’t think about how dependent we are on the air we breathe, the food we eat to sustains our bodies, the money we earn, and for love and compassion from our family and friends. Although these things are conceivably true, we live in a society that imparts individualism, the moral worth of the individual. However, Charles R. Swindoll, wrote that, we are truly not independent. When the wind of adversity blows hard against our soul. we cannot make it on our own. We were created for dependence, not independence. We need each other.

Just a Thought

Dear readings,

The Law of Greed and Reward: taking from the poor and giving to the rich. Wrapping ourselves in Selfish demeanor like a warm fur coat, finding Pleasure in the agony inflected on the less favorable. They say, ” I am Strong, therefore, you are Weak.” Preying on the innocent  souls who are powerless to fight back. ”  I say, Shameful.” This great universe would be a better place  of existence, if we Disconnect from the chaos, and Discover that, ” Love is the only law to obey” Ziggy Marley
