Relationship Experts. True or False

Photo by Git Stephen Gitau on Pexels.com

Have you noticed the new movement of motivational speakers and relationship experts who claim their sole purpose is to help people discover the hidden secrets of how to have a loving and lasting intimate relationships. There are thousands of books and videos posted on soical media by these self proclaimed relationship experts who earn income form speaking engagements, books and relationship workshops all at the expense of broken hearts and lost souls searching for love.

Women are pouring into relationship conferences that charge a fee to hear what they are doing wrong in their relationships, and how to attract the right partner. I’ve been unsuccessful in love, so I began to pay attention to these relationship experts, and invested money in books and workshops. For the most part I found some of the information useful and discovered areas in my life that needed improvement. But, I am not going to shoulder all the blame for not having successful relationships. Why? Because overtime while attending these relationship workshops I began to notice a trend, most experts heaped the blame for failed relationships on women.

The ideology of these experts seems to centered around advising women to be better, raise their standards, don’t date out side their league, stop chasing men, stop making life easy for men, stop having sex, stop wanting marriage, and wait for the man to make the first move. There theory is that It is the duty of women to guard their virginity because men don’t women who’ve been around the block too many times. Men want good girls, you know the saying, ” sugar and spice and everything nice.” While being a nice girl, women should concentrate on securing an education, building a career, and a solid credit score, and finances in preparation for Prince Charming. And when he comes all her aspiration should shift to serving her family and creating a happy home. I say, most of their expert advice is ” B. S.” and sexism.

Most of the dating resources and advice claim that woman are not supposed to change the rules of dating. A womans position is to be meek, humble, submissive, and attentive to her mans needs. Some relationship experts explain that women contribute to the deterioration of a relationship due to them pursuing careers over a relationship, marriage and children. The experts also suggest that most men leave their homes or have outside relationships because their current partner is not meeting their needs.

I won’t bore you with a list of books, YouTube channels, and podcasts focused on educating women in the ways of how to get and keep a man. I don’t want my readers to think that I am discouraging women from seeking advice to help them find a partner or to save a failing relationship. I am suggesting” let the buyer beware” before dooming themselves to a life of being a spinster. Ladies decide for yourself the information that will or will not be helpful because the bottom line is it takes two to tangle.

Whats Your Game Name?

Dear Readers, What’s your game name now?

Strange question. This is one of the prompts from the ten-day writing challenge. So here is my answer. My brand name is J. R. Floyd and my game is branding myself as a singer, writer, motivational speaker, blogger and Vlogger. This brand name did not come easy, it was given to me for my stage and writing name. I am forever thankful for the person who suggested this name while taping an interview for my first novel, The Waiting Game.  Currently, I am the host of my You Tube Channel, Conversations with J. R. Floyd. I never thought in this life time that I would be where I am now. The plan that I had for myself was to earn my education become a public-school teacher, but this process was delayed I spent three years in a depression and I assumed all hope was lost. I felt doomed to a life that lacked creativity. I watched one by one as people around me were leaving the job for their dream job, their dream life and I remained stuck.

People kept telling me that God had other plans for me. I am struggling to believe this. I am making a major effort to come to terms with my position in life. I have made major progress from what my old game name used to be, a no skills, high school drop out to college educated, writing books, classical singer, and newly motivational speaker. I am still in aww at the new me. Years ago, I lost my confidence. But that doesn’t matter because that use to be my old story with my old game name. I am happy to be J. R. Floyd the creator of stories, the singer, the educator and host of my own You Tube channel, the author of books. Yeah, I like, no I love this new game name.

What say you? What is your game name? Join me on my You Tube Channel, Conversations with J. R. Floyd.photos taken by aahman_-2 - copy

BALANCE

Dear Readers,

“Got to have it all” or “Be all that you can be” which one of these slogans describes the life you are struggling to live. There are countless books, essays, articles and motivational speakers telling us that we can “Have It all” meaning juggling career, family, travel and a social life, while trying to squeeze in eating and sleeping. This idea of “Having it All’ springs forth from the ideology of advertisement that frown at simplicity, and that having less is not a fulfilling life or quality lifestyle. People who desire a simpler life are settling for mediocrity. Why settle for less when you have more? Most people believe in the saying “Dream big or go home” Yeah ok. We live in a society were materialism vs minimalism is a tough trade-off. Who doesn’t want to enjoy the finer things in life? Well, here is some news for you sometimes the finer things in life are above the pay grade. The battle between the Haves and the Have Nots continues as an ever-ending drama of individuals comparing their life to those who they have no idea how those who seem to: “Have It All” are robbing Peter to pay Paul for all those shiny new things

This mindset of “Having It All” is a competition between people from different social economic status. If having it all means struggling to keep up with the Jones whoever they are and each day you dread opening your mailbox because of the mountain of bills that pile up month after month after month.  You start to hate the things you purchase because of them you are in over your head.

The title of this post is BALANCE.

There is Light at the End…..

Dear readers,

I’ve with stood many years of towing the line so to speak. I worked my way through college with this grand idea that a college education would net me a job, not a career path, but a job paying me loads of money. Great dream if we lived in a perfect world. My life didn’t turn out the way that I had planned. For years, I toiled trying to climb up the “ladder” of success. I arrived to work early, stayed late, came in on my day off, and performed tasks that no one would do because they said, “its wasn’t within their job description.” Time and time again I didn’t get the promotion that I worked to obtain. When I questioned those, in position to help me to upgrade my position, I was told that I didn’t meet the education or experience requirement. Nonetheless, I pushed harder to be noticed with no success. I spent years being angry because I felt that “they “won’t give me a chance, “they “were holding me back, “they “were evil…. the thoughts in my head went on and on and on. The road to finding my true purpose began two years ago with a simple Valentine’s Day Facebook posting, that led to my first blog.  With each post, something amazing started happening I found my voice. Not my speaking voice, the voice of my pen. While on a two-year journey, of rediscovery It turns out that my calling is to become an English professor, playwright, author, mentor and motivational speaker. I am amazed, and at times speechless. I wrote an award-winning play, a first-time author, and on the career path to becoming a college professor. A few years before these changes happened I felt hopeless, and too old to reinvent myself.  Now, I face each day with the happiness of knowing that I have more than a job or career, I have purpose.  Thank you for listening.

Like, What Do You Mean?

Dear readers,

Is it me, Or is it just easy to play the “like” game? Meaning, click the like button without reading the content. I likes you, so you feel obligated to like me back. Is it intruding on your time, to say a few words about what you like about the topic, poem, short stories, etc…

Considering most people’s, attention span; I keep my postings to 250 words or less. Maybe I missed the objective of being connected to a community of artist, writers, poetics, comedians and motivational speakers, which is to share ideas, and to get feedback. Oh, Well, I guess no one will like this.
